I never accept free products or payment in exchange for reviews. However, to offset some of the costs of owning and operating this website, I use affiliate links in some blog posts and other pages. These affiliate links will be disclosed on each blog article or site page near the link.
MainStreetUSA.xyz is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. I also use other affiliate programs to generate revenue when linking to products and services to support this site and business.
How Affiliate Links Work
No Extra Costs To Your Purchases
Clicking any link on MainStreetUSA.xyz and purchasing a product from a merchant will not cost you more than what the products normally sell for. Affiliates usually get paid a small commission on qualified purchases based on the regular price of the product. This can also be a flat fee depending on the company or affiliate program. Either way, the consumer clicking the link never pays anything extra for their purchase. It’s always the merchant paying the affiliate out of their profit.
Not All Clicks Earn Revenue
This may be too much information for some, but if you’re like me you like to know details on things, and so this section is for you. How affiliates actually qualify to earn money can be complicated. I’ll try to explain it as simply as possible here.
- Website/Blog visitor clicks an affiliate link and visits a merchant site.
- Visitor/Customer makes a purchase on the product link they clicked on, and/or other products on the site.
- Depending on the affiliate program terms, the affiliate (me in this case) may get a small fee or percentage if the purchase qualifies.
Here’s where it gets complicated. If you click a link but don’t make a purchase right then, there may be no affiliate commission. Some programs will place a cookie on your website to know which affiliate link you clicked and some allow for up to 30 days (sometimes more or less) to return to their site to make a purchase. But if you returned from a different web browser, computer, or if your browser cookies/cache were cleared before you visited again, no commission is earned. Also, if you happen to click a different site’s affiliate link after clicking a link on this site and then make a purchase, the commission earned would go to the last link you clicked. There are also other rules to eliminate commissions being earned, like when products are returned, etc.
So, as you can see it’s not as simple as click, buy and earn affiliate commission. That’s ok though. I love what I do and the most important reason that I work at it every day is with the goal that you’ll find my site useful. Happy Shopping!
One last note about clicking on any link on this site. I don’t know who clicks on links, and if they buy any products or not. There are affiliate reports to see generic information such as which product or other links were clicked and if purchases were made, but never any personal information from the site visitor. Your information will always be between you and the merchant. As always though, it’s usually a good idea to read their privacy policies to know what the merchant is doing with your information.
